Boning Up With Implants

Do you have a missing tooth in your mouth? There are two good standard options to fill in the gap, such as a fixed bridge or removable partial dentures. Both use other teeth for strength and support. Neither is an ideal way to actually replace the full utility of the missing tooth.

To solve this dilemma, man created the dental implant. This surgically-placed post actually fuses with the bone in the jaw. After a crown is place on it, it can withstand nine times more biting pressure than a denture and, after several years of use, will still be going strong.

Talk to your dentist to determine if you are a good candidate for implants. You need to be in good health, have healthy gums and adequate bone structure. You must also have excellent oral hygiene habits and maintain regular dental visits.
